Weight Management Help and Advice
Portion Control
Dogs are just like us. The more calories we consume, the more weight we will gain. Make sure you are measuign your dog’s food. Guestimating can often lead to over feeding.
Excercise
Your pooch needs to be keeping active. Walks not only help burn calories, but also offer huge amounts of enrichment for their brains. Hit the street, park, woods or riverbank with your dog at least once a day. A 20 minute walk is better than nothing. If your dog is sevefrely overweight, make sure you build them up slowly to limit the damage to their joints. Alternatively you can also try swimming and hydrotherapy?
Watch treats and rewards
If you’re doing regular training with your dog or they have a habit of wanting a little extra treat now and again, try to use your kibble and some of their daily food allowance. They won’t be measuing what they have got in their bowl and you will have a little somethign extra to treat them with (we won’t tell them if you don’t.)
